SEAS is excited to host a US Sailing Safety at Sea Course with Hands On Training for the second year in a row. Brian Adams, an experienced offshore sailor and longtime SAS moderator with US Sailing, will lead an intensive two-day course in offshore safety.
Day One of the course will be 8 hours of classroom instruction and will be held at the SEAS Facility (details below). Brian, along with a handful of experts in a variety of areas, will cover information on topics including, but not limited to:
- Crew Health
- Marine Weather
- Cold Exposure
- Care and Maintenance of Safety Gear
- Signals
Day Two of the course will be a hands-on, in-water session covering how to effectively use:
- Liferafts
- Inflatable PFDs
- Communications
- Flares
If you or any crew members are planning to compete in any offshore events, this training program is highly encouraged and in some cases required. For the 2019 Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, at least 50% of the crew on each vessel must be certified within the last five years.
Join us in furthering the safety of our sport!
The fee for day one of the course is $150 and day two will be $100. This includes a light breakfast, lunch and certificates for both days. Registration will be open on Wednesday, February 6th and is open to everyone looking to advance their understanding of basic and advanced safety skills on the water.
