This class will introduce fundamental chart work, dead reckoning, plotting skills and proper usage of tools, including log keeping methods necessary for prudent offshore navigation. The goal for the student will be to understand how to plot a vessel’s position on a chart while underway. Electronics such as GPS, Depth Sounder, Radar and VHF Radio will be touched on as they aid significantly in the above piloting skills. However, chart work and plotting will be the focus of this exercise.

The art of navigation demonstrated will be for near coastal piloting and the student will leave with information to continue this learning process.

This class is open to the public. The class only fee is $25.00/person. There is an optional choice at registration for “Class and take home tool kit” ($80.00/person) this will include a charting tool kit for you to take home and practice what you have learned. The kit will include: Chart, Parallel Rule, Dividers, Pencil and Eraser.
